Upon leaving school, Matthew joined his family upholstery business, Family Repair Service in Andover, Hampshire as an apprentice, while also studying an NVQ in Engineering. He went to work for the Ducal pine furniture company as an upholsterer producing sofas, chairs, footstools, ottomans and headboards. Here he gained another NVQ in Training and was responsible for training and overseeing the soft furnishings department. In 1998 he returned to Family Repair Service, and in 2009 he became a Partner with his uncle Geoff Foss. As well as his background in domestic upholstery, Matt has extensive experience managing large scale contract furnishing projects; confident liaising with key stakeholders throughout the design process, he can take a concept from blueprint and work closely with carpenters and fabricators, undertaking the upholstery and finishing through to installation.
