Friendly Phils Concept Diner – Upholstery

Herbert & Ellison were subcontracted by Oakwoods Shopfitting to undertake upholstery for the Richoux group transforming a former restaurant into a new concept American Diner in Hempstead Valley Retail Park.

The diner which features the traditional American style open kitchen, has a warm feel with reclaimed timbers, brick slips and cosy booth seating. The designer specified this particular wide fluting for seating throughout the diner, opting for Crest Leather in Burgundy. The seat backs backs were 5” wide stitched flutes filled with 2” foam. This job was quite unusual as the where the seats were back to back, the designer wanted the fluting to go over the ridge and down the other side, this presents a challenge as you need to avoid wrinkling and flattening as the material is folded over the shape of the seat. We developed our own in-house technique for producing this kind of fluting which creates ultra straight lines, evenly filled, crease-free flutes and smooth rounded edges.

For the outdoor seating area, we supplied an additional length of banquette seating following the same fluted design but in marine grade vinyl in a contrasting colour.

All our commercial work is completed using Crib 5 materials as standard.
